About Ontario Transit Group and the Project
Ontario Transit Group, a collaboration between Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projets, is responsible for designing, building, and financing the Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel package (South Civil) of the Ontario Line. The construction work is anticipated to finish by 2030 and aims to support approximately 1,500 jobs at peak construction.
The project scope includes a six-kilometer tunnel from Exhibition to Don Yard portal, stations integration with existing GO Transit Exhibition, TTC Osgoode, and Queen subway stations, and four new underground stations at King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, and Corktown. Benefits of the Ontario Line include reduced travel times, alleviated congestion on Line 1 subway, improved transit accessibility to over 227,500 residents within 10 minutes of a station, and a positive impact on economic growth and environmental sustainability in Toronto.
Role Overview and Responsibilities
The Civil Project Coordinator will facilitate the planning, scheduling, procurement, documentation, and execution of construction activities for the Ontario Transit Group's major transit infrastructure projects. The role requires working closely with multiple teams such as project management, site supervisors, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient project delivery adhering to quality and compliance standards.
- Coordinate schedules, resources, equipment, and relevant project information to support construction activities.
- Plan and prepare for construction activities by organizing methodologies, design deliverables, procurement, permits, and approvals.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documents to guide project execution.
- Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), change orders, permits, traffic plans, utility coordination, and land access information.
- Participate actively in project meetings to address issues and align stakeholders.
- Ensure on-site work complies with health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Monitor daily construction work and coordinate with all pertinent parties to keep progress on track.
- Assist procurement processes to secure timely material and equipment delivery, preventing delays.
- Identify risks, constraints, and scheduling impacts, escalating and contributing to remediation plans.
- Liaise with internal teams and external providers for smooth project delivery.
- Support quality assurance/control processes, including inspections, testing, deficiency tracking, and documentation.
- Maintain meticulous records: as-built documentation, turnover packages, correspondence, meeting minutes, and overall project files.
- Provide comprehensive progress and performance reporting to management, facilitating informed decision-making and cost control.
- Assist with cost tracking, forecasting, productivity measures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills
- A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field is preferred.
- PMP certification is advantageous.
- Relevant industry certifications and health and safety training such as OSHA or Working at Heights are assets.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in construction or project coordination within civil infrastructure, transportation, or related sectors.
- Experience with heavy civil, transit, or infrastructure projects preferred.
- Competency in interpreting construction drawings, technical specifications, contractual documents, and schedules.
- Knowledge of construction methods, project controls, procurement, and document management.
- Excellent attention to detail, communication, and interpersonal skills capable of managing multiple stakeholders and team environments.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, analytical skills and ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous professional development.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is from 80000 CAD to 110000 CAD annually with additional benefits including disability insurance, dental and extended medical coverage, optional RRSP matching, and discretionary bonuses.
