Role Overview

The Data Science Associate will play a pivotal role bridging data engineering and analytics within Notre Dame Athletics. This position involves developing, cleaning, and analyzing data to support strategic revenue initiatives—including ticketing, marketing, content, and partnerships. By applying data engineering and analytical expertise, the Associate ensures that organizational decisions across revenue and business domains are informed by robust data insights. Key duties include troubleshooting system issues, enhancing code quality, and conducting testing to address operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Back-End Database Engineer and revenue-related teams to integrate and maintain data solutions that meet the ongoing needs of athletics revenue generation and business intelligence.
• Develop and manage dependable data pipelines supporting analytics across ticketing, marketing, content, and partnerships.
• Establish and uphold data quality checks, comprehensive logging, and monitoring protocols consistent with departmental standards to guarantee data accuracy and reliability.
• Craft optimized database queries for dashboards and reports, and create tools that enable new and enhanced revenue opportunities, while improving data accessibility for internal teams.
• Utilize programming and analytical skills to interpret, visualize, and apply data insights across all revenue-related functions including digital and fan engagement efforts.
• Collaborate with leaders to define meaningful metrics, data models, and definitions that translate into actionable revenue decisions.
• Conduct internal research initiatives to discover innovative avenues for revenue growth.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the department’s objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in data science or a related field; graduate studies advantageous.
• Minimum of three years professional experience in data science or analytics roles.
• Proficiency with diverse data management systems and programming languages such as Java, SQL, and Python.
• Experience handling multiple data structures including relational and non-relational (NoSQL, JSON, unstructured data).
• Ability to formulate and explore important business questions tied to revenue generation, marketing, partnerships, and CRM systems.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, intellectual curiosity, resilience under pressure, and determination to deliver results from project initiation through completion.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of tailoring messages effectively to a varied group of stakeholders.
• A broad understanding of sports business and flexibility to work evenings or weekends when required.

Additional Information

• Salary up to $85,000 annually, depending on experience.
