Role Overview
Fusemachines is looking for a Data Scientist specialized in Financial Planning & Analysis to design predictive models and analytical tools that enhance financial forecasting and support sound business decisions. This position blends financial expertise, statistical analysis, machine learning, and data engineering to interpret how financial and operational drivers impact business outcomes and to translate data into actionable intelligence for financial and executive teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Create predictive models focusing on metrics like revenue, expenses, cash flow, and profitability.
- Develop driver-based forecasting models and scenario plans to aid budgeting cycles and strategic planning.
- Analyze past financial and operational data to uncover trends, risks, and growth opportunities.
- Enhance forecasting reliability through advanced statistical techniques, machine learning algorithms, and time-series analyses.
- Conduct variance analyses examining discrepancies among actuals, budgets, and forecasts.
- Perform sensitivity analyses and simulate various business scenarios to assess potential outcomes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, accounting, operations, and sales to align on analytical needs and success metrics.
- Build dashboards and automated reporting frameworks for transparent financial and operational monitoring.
- Integrate data from systems like ERP, CRM, and financial planning tools.
- Identify and address inaccuracies in data quality to improve reliability.
- Present findings and recommendations to finance leaders and C-suite executives.
- Document all models, assumptions, data sources, methodologies, and validation steps comprehensively.
- Support ethical and responsible application of machine learning and generative AI within finance functions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
- At least 7 years of experience in data science, financial or business analytics.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL programming languages.
- Skilled in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and time-series forecasting.
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and managing financial performance.
- Experience handling large, complex datasets from multiple sources.
- Expertise in dashboard development with Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative reasoning capabilities.
- Ability to convey technical analyses into straightforward business insights and finance recommendations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or strategic finance teams.
- Familiarity with financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Expertise with forecasting methods such as regression, ARIMA, exponential smoothing, gradient boosting, or probabilistic forecasting.
- Experience using financial planning software like Anaplan, Adaptive Planning, Oracle EPM, SAP Analytics Cloud.
- Knowledge of ERP and financial systems including SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with scenario simulation, optimization techniques, causal inference, or sensitivity analysis.
- Background in deploying analytical models in production environments.
- Awareness of data governance, model oversight, and financial control protocols.
