About the Role
Byron Shire Council invites applications for the role of Development Support Officer within the Sustainable Development Team based in Mullumbimby, NSW. This permanent part-time position involves delivering exceptional customer service by providing expert guidance on development and construction approval processes including managing pre-lodgement enquiries and development application registrations through the NSW Planning Portal. The officer supports two planning teams administratively, overseeing development application registrations and development consents issuance, along with coordinating referrals and assisting other Council units on development matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle inquiries via counter, phone, and correspondence from developers, Council staff, and the public concerning planning and environmental policies, clarifying Council requirements.
- Coordinate and provide administrative support for pre-lodgement and Development Assistance Panel meetings, including preparing agendas, managing documentation, taking minutes, and communicating outcomes.
- Manage the development application processes through the NSW Planning Portal, including registering applications, issuing consents, and directing external referrals.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a Certificate IV in Local Government (Planning), Graduate Certificate in Development Assessment, or equivalent qualifications or experience in Development Support roles.
- Proficient in administrative tasks including typing, accurate data entry, records system management, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Experienced in preparing formal documentation and generating both standard and specialized correspondence.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong customer service orientation, capable of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Well-developed organisational and time management abilities to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines consistently.
