What the role involves

This position supports clients and their carers in working toward personal goals, improving independence, and maintaining a good quality of life while living in the way they prefer. Care is delivered in a respectful, flexible, and person-centred manner in clients’ homes and out in the community.

Key duties

  • Provide transport-related assistance, including support with shopping trips and appointment attendance.
  • Assist with personal care needs such as bathing, dressing, and hygiene support.
  • Prepare simple meals and assist with light meal preparation.
  • Promote client independence and safety by monitoring wellbeing and responding to changing needs.
  • Offer respite support in the home or in the community so carers can take a break from caring duties.

Skills and experience

  • Understanding of the challenges faced by older people and/or people with disability in home or community settings.
  • Ability to build respectful, positive relationships while recognising cultural values, personal beliefs, and individual preferences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working effectively with clients and their families.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to earn client trust and confidence.
  • Customer-focused approach that keeps the client’s best interests at the centre.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing client needs and respond appropriately.

Qualifications and checks

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) completed.
  • Current Level 2 First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Full Australian driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle that is registered and comprehensively insured.
  • Successful candidates must complete reference checks, a Working with Children Check, and a Criminal Record Check, along with the mandatory application questions.
