Job description
Overview
As a Dispatcher at First Student, you will play a vital role in our dedication to safety and exceptional customer service. Your primary responsibility will involve managing the dispatch of all school buses, ensuring routes are kept on schedule, and providing guidance to drivers and monitors on the front line.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee all bus routes and scheduling activities.
- Provide counseling and coaching support to drivers and monitors.
- Manage frequent communications via phone and radio effectively.
- Address scheduling conflicts and driver-related complaints, escalating issues to the Operations Supervisor or Contract Manager when necessary.
- Act as the main point of contact for communication with major contracted customers.
- Potentially handle additional duties such as charter bookings, billing, or driver payroll management.
- Develop and implement solutions for challenges regarding bus pick-up and drop-off procedures.
- Step in as a backup driver or perform various clerical tasks as needed.
- Carry out special project assignments assigned by management.
- Support the supervision of daily operational activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possess between three to five years of relevant experience.
- Hold a high school diploma or an equivalent certification.
- Have a fundamental understanding of radio dispatch equipment.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service capabilities.
- Exhibit the ability to perform efficiently under tight deadlines and pressure.
- Bring prior experience in terminal operations, dispatching, or as a driver.
- Be comfortable using computers for various tasks.
- Willing to undergo a background check as part of the hiring process.
