Role Overview
The Driver/Rider is tasked with the secure, punctual, and efficient transportation of Vision Plus products, paperwork, and parcels to customers, dealers, retail partners, and designated locations within Nairobi and other upcountry areas. This role involves operating a range of vehicles including cars, vans, trucks (up to 3 tonnes), and motorcycles, ensuring that deliveries arrive intact and that the Vision Plus brand is professionally represented in all customer interactions. Additionally, the position supports various logistical tasks such as collections, warehouse errands, and inter-office shipments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver Vision Plus goods such as TVs, home appliances, audio systems, and accessories to dealers, supermarkets like Naivas, Quick Mart, Khetias, Carrefour, institutional clients, and direct consumers across Nairobi and upcountry.
- Conduct urgent deliveries of small parcels and documents using motorcycles within Nairobi swiftly and efficiently.
- Plan and optimize delivery routes for fuel efficiency and timely arrivals as per agreed schedules.
- Ensure proper loading and securing of items to prevent damage, particularly with fragile electronics.
- Handle all necessary delivery documentation, including notes, invoices, and goods received notes for customer verification and sign-offs.
- Collect and return signed proof-of-delivery documents to the Warehouse & Logistics team daily for record keeping in Zoho Inventory.
- Collect payments via cheque, cash, or M-Pesa during delivery and promptly hand them over to Finance/Accounts.
- Keep detailed logs of daily mileage, fuel use, deliveries completed, and incidents.
- Perform daily inspections on assigned vehicles and motorcycles checking essential components and maintenance needs.
- Maintain cleanliness and branding standards on vehicles and motorcycles.
- Report and coordinate repairs for any mechanical or accident-related issues.
- Ensure all legal documents such as insurance, inspection certificates, and valid licenses are current and notify management of impending expiries.
- Manage collections of defective or returned products from customers and deliver them to appropriate Vision Plus locations for processing.
- Pick up stock from suppliers, clearing agents, and factory sites as required.
- Collect important documents and parcels from banks, government offices, and partners.
- Provide courteous, professional customer interaction and escalate issues promptly.
- Adhere strictly to traffic rules, safety regulations, and company security procedures during all operations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum KCSE certificate (grade D+ or equivalent).
- Valid Kenyan driving licenses: Classes B, C, E for vehicles and Class A for motorcycles, both required.
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct or readiness to obtain one prior to employment.
- At least 3 years' commercial driving experience in logistics or distribution.
- Minimum 1 year experience in motorcycle riding within an urban delivery or courier environment.
- Clean driving record without major traffic violations in the past three years.
- Basic literacy and numeracy allowing reading of delivery papers and GPS maps.
Desired Skills & Attributes
- Thorough knowledge of Nairobi and Kenya's upcountry road networks.
- Confidence riding motorcycles in traffic with ability to navigate diverse locations.
- Excellent time management and ability to prioritize deadlines.
- Proficient in using smartphones, including Google Maps and communication apps.
- Physically capable of handling goods weighing up to 30 kg.
- Reliable, honest, and comfortable managing financial transactions and valuable equipment.
- Effective communication in English and Swahili.
- Basic ability in vehicle troubleshooting and first aid is advantageous.
- Experience in FMCG, electronics, or e-commerce last-mile delivery preferred.
Performance Indicators
- Maintain an on-time in-full delivery rate of at least 95%.
- Ensure zero damage incidents in transit.
- Return 100% of signed delivery documents same day.
- Daily vehicle/motorcycle readiness with no breakdowns from neglect.
- Fuel consumption aligned with approved targets.
- Receive zero customer complaints regarding professionalism or delivery handling.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and insurance requirements with no lapses.
Work Environment
- Primarily field-based with daily travel within Nairobi and occasional trips to regions including Nyeri, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret.
- May require extended hours during busy seasons and urgent delivery demands.
- Use of company vehicles including vans, pickups, trucks, and motorcycles as needed.
- Provision of protective equipment such as helmets, reflective vests, and gloves for motorcycle use.
