Role overview
The Engineer Specials role sits within the MillerKnoll Specials Engineering team in Bengaluru and reports to the Team Leader, MillerKnoll Specials. In this position, you will work under close guidance, use standard engineering methods, and apply foundational engineering concepts to support business goals and solve day-to-day process and technical issues.
The role involves reviewing product information from multiple sources, building generic bill of material concepts, creating generic bills of material, and contributing to basic engineering analysis, feasibility work, cost and manpower estimates, and design recommendations. The role also calls for practical problem-solving, coordination with related teams, and consistent execution on assigned projects.
Key responsibilities
- Keep clear records, including notes, calculations, and assumptions used in the work.
- Use basic engineering knowledge to complete assigned tasks.
- Develop a working understanding of MillerKnoll Performance Systems (MKPS).
- Apply simple problem-solving methods to daily engineering activities.
- Carry out engineering assignments as directed by the team lead or other leaders.
- Follow established engineering workflows so work is done right the first time.
- Seek guidance from senior engineers and leadership when needed to maintain accuracy and smooth BOM-related work.
- Obtain budget approvals through the proper request process.
- Work within a defined process under direct supervision, with work reviewed after completion when needed.
- Make basic modifications to existing designs while keeping design intent and product application in mind.
- Use tools and systems such as Pro/E, PDM Link, performance test request tools, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Revu (Bluebeam), BOM Compare, BAAN/JDE, and Confluence.
- Take on additional tasks as required to help meet business needs.
- Use basic supply chain, cost, value-stream, and economic concepts in the work.
- Help define the rules used to build item masters, bills of material, and routings.
- Create spreadsheets containing product-line-specific data for generic bills of material.
- Work across product engineering, manufacturing engineering, and configuration software teams to build vocabulary spreadsheets for generic or static bills of material and routings for new products and product changes.
- Share ideas, communicate openly, and collaborate closely with the team.
Requirements
- A 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification is required.
- Knowledge of Creo and at least one additional 3D CAD tool is needed.
- Basic understanding of Lean principles and how to apply them.
- Ability to spot waste and unnecessary variation in assigned business processes.
- Willingness to collaborate daily and communicate challenges and opportunities clearly.
- Working knowledge of common office, communication, and engineering software used for engineering and order-flow activities.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and workflow direction under supervision.
- Basic awareness of how decisions influence business outcomes.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in continuous improvement of existing products or in new product development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Pro-E modeling, complex assemblies, drawings, and similar 3D CAD software.
- Ability to produce accurate, detailed, and clear engineering drawings.
- Experience with bills of material is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills across different levels of the organization.
- Ability to take initiative and be accountable for work delivered.
- Comfort working with teams to deliver quality results on schedule.
- Logical, lateral, and confident problem-solving ability.
- Ability to think conceptually and develop innovative methods.
