Functional Analyst / Business Analyst

Role Overview

MatchBox Consulting Group urgently seeks a Functional or Business Analyst for a 12-month contract supporting a public sector client based in New Westminster, British Columbia. This hybrid position requires presence in the office 2 days a week and remote work for the remaining 3 days.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct requirements workshops and lead stakeholder interviews to gather comprehensive business, functional, and non-functional requirements.
• Assist in backlog refinement, develop user stories, and define clear acceptance criteria.
• Convert business demands into detailed functional specifications and documentation for software development teams.
• Analyze current and future business processes through As-Is/To-Be mapping and gap analysis to identify areas for improvement.
• Work collaboratively with technical teams to assess and recommend solution options.
• Support data requirements gathering, validate business rules, and define reporting and dashboard needs.
• Plan and manage User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including creating test scenarios and test cases, and validation activities.
• Maintain traceability of requirements and ensure all deliverables align throughout the project lifecycle.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Act as a liaison facilitating clear communication between business stakeholders and technical teams.

Deliverables

Documentation produced will include Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs), user stories with acceptance criteria, process maps, gap analyses, Requirement Traceability Matrices (RTM), UAT test cases, solution impact assessments, and other relevant project materials.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years experience as a Functional or Business Analyst or in a related role.
• Proven expertise in eliciting and documenting business and functional requirements.
• Experience with process mapping and conducting gap analyses.
• Strong background producing BRDs, FRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Hands-on experience supporting UAT including test planning and defect triage.
• In-depth knowledge of Agile methodologies, specifically SAFe framework.
• Proficient with Azure DevOps for managing backlogs, user stories, and sprint cycles.
• Skilled in Microsoft Visio for process and solution visualization.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and analytical abilities.

Preferred Experience

• Familiarity with enterprise-level technology or digital transformation initiatives.
• Experience collaborating with data warehouse analysts, data QA analysts, data architects, and product owners.
• Previous involvement with data, reporting, or analytics-focused projects.
