About Rocket Lab

Rocket Lab is a fully integrated space company specializing in launch services, satellite design, manufacturing and payloads with the vision of democratizing access to space. Our Electron rocket ranks as the second most frequent U.S. rocket launcher annually, having placed over 230 satellites into orbit. We are also advancing the development of Neutron, a medium-lift reusable launch vehicle intended to deploy larger satellite constellations. Our Space Systems division designs and constructs satellites and payload components currently supporting missions to the Moon, Mars, and the James Webb Space Telescope.

Role Overview

The Ground Systems Engineering team is charged with creating the infrastructure for Electron and Neutron launch vehicles, spanning factory to orbit operations. Hiring an early-career Ground Systems Engineer to engage hands-on with design, testing, and operational support for real missions, launch pads, and hardware. This role suits a motivated engineer aiming to rapidly grow, take responsibility, and contribute to world-class launch system delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multiple teams to identify and define project needs.
  • Design mechanical systems including structural elements, interface mechanisms, and fluid systems.
  • Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models.
  • Develop schematics, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and bill of materials (BOMs).
  • Conduct design trade-offs ensuring adherence to engineering standards.
  • Work closely with vendors and production teams to enhance design manufacturability.
  • Participate in risk assessments, hazard analysis, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Generate technical documents such as manuals, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Assist in preparing and executing component and system-level test plans.
  • Design and maintain testing apparatus.
  • Support data evaluation following tests and flight operations.
  • Maintain documentation controlling interfaces between launch vehicles and ground systems.
  • Support operational teams in system readiness, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and launch activities, both on-site and remotely.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or CAD Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Background in structural design and industrial machinery is essential.
  • Capability to read and comprehend technical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, hands-on environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with launch pad systems or experience in industries like oil & gas, mining, or process engineering.
  • Experience in fluid system design.
  • Proficient with tools such as NX, Teamcenter, SolidWorks, or EPDM.
  • Knowledge of standards including ASME, ASTM, AS/NZS, or NASA ground system specifications.
  • At least one year of design engineering experience in aerospace or industrial sectors.

Why This Role Is Awarding

  • Ownership-driven mindset with commitment to task completion.
  • Proactive learner eager for feedback to build engineering insight.
  • Appreciates safety, teamwork, and compliance to best practices.

Additional Information
