About Egis

Egis is a multinational organization with over 20,000 employees across the globe, headquartered in Paris. We provide global career opportunities as well as local professional growth. Our company is uniquely positioned to influence industry and community transformation through place-making, sustainability, and connected city initiatives. Unlike traditional engineering firms, we deliver full-spectrum services from advisory and design to asset management and operational support.

Role Overview

The Lighting and Control System Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of all lighting and control systems across the RF-001 expressway network. This includes traditional road lighting, decorative and architectural lighting, smart lighting control systems, along with underpass and tunnel illumination. The engineer must ensure compliance with relevant standards, maintain performance targets, and meet contractually defined KPIs and SLAs.

Key Duties

  • Supervise and plan the operations and upkeep of decorative and architectural lighting on various structures such as bridges and interchanges.
  • Manage DMX512 and RDM controlled lighting fixtures, including scene programming, color sequencing, and validating controller data integrity.
  • Diagnose and resolve data line, driver, and node faults; maintain backups and control documentation.
  • Assist in the planning and testing phases for the future deployment of smart lighting systems utilizing LoRaWAN networks, including gateways, nodes, and central management systems.
  • Configure DALI and DALI-2 lighting drivers, manage dimming profiles, automate scheduling, and monitor fault and energy telemetry.
  • Support integration of feeder pillar monitoring, remote switching, metering, device commissioning, and firmware updates.
  • Generate performance, energy usage, and fault reports from CMS data to support contract KPIs once smart systems are live.
  • Maintain underpass and tunnel lighting in compliance with CIE 88 and BS 5489 standards, including stage dimming, luminance control, photometric sensors, and traffic-linked logic.
  • Ensure emergency and standby lighting circuits meet requirements and coordinate with tunnel SCADA, ventilation, and incident management systems where applicable.
  • Conduct periodic measurement and inspection to verify luminance uniformity and absence of flicker.
  • Lead fault detection, preventive maintenance, and corrective actions across all lighting assets for the expressway network.
  • Oversee and coordinate subcontractor and internal teams, ensuring quality standards and SLA adherence.
  • Prepare technical documentation including reports, method statements, risk assessments, and maintain as-built records; support trials, retrofits and the lighting conversion from HPS to LED.
  • Strictly adhere to electrical safety protocols, permit to work procedures, and Ashghal health and safety regulations.

Technical Expertise

  • Proficiency with DMX512 and RDM lighting control protocols for decorative and architectural lighting.
  • Working knowledge of smart lighting technologies such as LoRaWAN for planned upgrades.
  • Experience configuring and managing DALI/DALI-2 drivers and schedules.
  • Expertise with tunnel lighting standards including CIE 88 stage dimming, luminance (L20) control, and emergency lighting.
  • Competence in photometric verification aligned to BS 5489, CIE 115, and EN 13201 standards.
  • Familiarity with low voltage electrical distribution systems, feeder pillars, cabling, protection devices, metering, and grounding.
  • Skilled in handling CMS analytics, KPI and SLA dashboards, and asset/work order management systems.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • A minimum of six years’ relevant experience in street, decorative, and tunnel lighting systems.
  • Hands-on experience with DMX512 and RDM control systems is essential.
  • Understanding of LoRaWAN, DALI, and CMS smart lighting systems is advantageous.
  • Familiar with lighting standards BS 5489, CIE 115, EN 13201, and CIE 88.
  • Experience working on performance-based or highway maintenance contracts preferred.
  • MMUP/UPDA registration in electrical discipline is a plus.
  • Valid Qatar driving license is preferred.
  • Strong technical reporting and proficiency in managing asset data and analysis tools.

Working Relationships

This role is part of the Electrical and Street Lighting Department reporting to the Project Manager. The engineer reports directly to the Electrical and Street Lighting Manager and collaborates closely with duty engineers, subcontractors, Ashghal client agents, as well as teams managing traffic, tunnel operations, and SCADA systems for coordinated works.
