Job description
Role Overview
Jobprimers seeks a meticulous and proactive Linux Server Administrator based in Abuja to manage and optimize our Linux server infrastructure. This role requires full-time onsite presence and focuses on ensuring the security, performance, and continuous availability of our Linux servers.
Key Responsibilities
- Provision, configure, and maintain Linux servers across on-premises and cloud platforms.
- Conduct routine system maintenance including operating system updates, kernel patching, and software upgrades to maintain system stability and security.
- Enforce strong security practices such as managing firewalls (iptables/ufw), configuring SSH settings, and applying the principle of least privilege for user access.
- Implement and manage monitoring and alerting systems to detect performance bottlenecks and guarantee high system availability.
- Develop and test backup and disaster recovery procedures to protect critical company data.
- Manage web and application server stacks like Nginx, Apache, and multiple database systems.
- Support application deployments and CI/CD pipeline management to facilitate smooth transitions from staging to production environments.
- Produce and maintain thorough technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 2 to 4 years of solid experience as a Linux System Administrator, with working knowledge of distributions such as Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian, or RHEL.
- Proficient in provisioning servers, managing configurations, and applying OS patches and updates effectively.
- Experienced in managing and optimizing Nginx and Apache web servers, as well as database administration.
- Skilled in implementing server hardening techniques, firewall rules, SSH policies, and user access management.
- Deep understanding of networking protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and SSL/TLS.
- Experienced in designing and maintaining backup systems and disaster recovery plans.
- Familiar with monitoring tools and alerting systems to maintain high availability and performance.
- Knowledgeable in CI/CD automation and deployment methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a dedication to detailed technical documentation.
Compensation and Location
The position offers a monthly remuneration of ₦400,000 and requires candidates to reside in Abuja with willingness for full-time onsite work.
