Nursery Assistant

Overview

The Nursery Assistant role involves supporting young children's safety, welfare, and development under the supervision of the Nursery Manager or Team Leader. The position requires contributing to providing high standards of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care in a collaborative team environment. Building positive relationships with children, parents, and staff is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Safeguard children by adhering to nursery safety procedures to ensure their wellbeing and security.
• Support and work with children by assisting in designing and conducting activities tailored to individual developmental stages and interests.
• Maintain and update detailed records of children's progress and learning journeys, sharing information with parents and relevant adults.
• Engage cooperatively with nursery staff and support the entire team in daily activities, including attending training sessions, staff meetings, and events beyond regular hours.
• Collaborate with parents and families to strengthen the partnership that supports the child’s welfare and early learning.
• Perform flexible duties including preparation of snacks and meals, cleaning equipment, and other domestic tasks to maintain the nursery environment.
• Work towards fulfilling the nursery’s vision by following all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Ensure accurate record keeping of incidents such as accidents, obtaining necessary approvals before sharing with parents.
• Implement strong supervision protocols during child collection to ensure only authorized individuals pick up children.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all sensitive information.

Childcare Specific Duties

• Plan and deliver customized activities to support each child's unique developmental needs.
• Develop a key person role within the team to deepen relationships and support for assigned children.
• Ensure meal times provide a positive, social, and nourishing experience for children.
• Assist with washing and changing children as needed.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and safety at all times.
• Attend to sick children appropriately while promptly notifying management.
• Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment, respecting all children's individual backgrounds, abilities, or medical needs.
• Represent the nursery positively, maintaining standards onsite and in the wider community.
