About the Role
The Plant Engineering Manager position involves comprehensive oversight of facility management, equipment maintenance, construction projects, procurement, supplier coordination, utility control, compliance, safety, and budgeting within a plant environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee smooth functioning of plant infrastructure and utilities such as electrical systems, generators, UPS, air compressors, HVAC/AHU, chillers, fire safety systems, water treatment plants, and building maintenance.
- Ensure uninterrupted utility supply critical to production efficiency and monitor facility uptime, breakdowns, and restoration timelines.
- Lead preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance activities, preparing annual maintenance schedules and shutdown plans while enforcing maintenance SOPs and calibration protocols.
- Track key maintenance metrics including mean time between failures, mean time to repair, and utility efficiency; manage contracts related to facility upkeep and address root causes of recurrent failures to implement corrective actions.
- Supervise availability of essential maintenance spares and collaborate closely with production to minimize operational downtime.
- Manage new infrastructure projects from greenfield and brownfield plant construction to interior and utility installations, cleanroom and office setups, ensuring alignment with layouts, timelines, budgets, quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with architects, consultants, contractors, and internal teams; verify billing accuracy, compliance with bills of quantity, and certify work completion.
- Handle procurement of facility materials and services including utility equipment, spare parts, consumables, AMC services, civil and electrical items, and safety systems by preparing RFQs/RFPs and conducting technical and commercial evaluations.
- Engage in vendor negotiations on pricing, delivery, and contractual terms; track purchase orders, delivery status, and readiness for installation, while managing CAPEX budget and approvals.
- Identify, qualify, and onboard vendors; monitor supplier performance metrics such as quality, costs, service levels, responsiveness, and delivery adherence; perform audits and manage escalations over service issues and delays.
- Oversee contractor workforce management and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Monitor and optimize utilities consumption including power, water, compressed air, HVAC energy, and diesel; promote energy-saving and cost reduction strategies aligned with production growth forecasts.
- Ensure full compliance with statutory safety and environmental regulations with timely audits and maintenance of licenses, permits, certifications related to electrical safety, fire safety, pollution control, lifts, pressure vessels, DG sets, and calibration.
- Implement safety management controls ensuring hazard identification, risk assessments, contractor safety, permit to work enforcement, emergency drills, PPE compliance, and support investigation and resolution of incidents.
- Develop and manage annual OPEX and CAPEX budgets for facilities, overseeing expenditures, validating bills and invoices, controlling costs, and documenting savings initiatives and returns on investment.
