Role Overview

We are seeking a full-time Refractionist to work on-site in Salem. The position involves conducting both objective and subjective refraction assessments to determine accurate prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses. Routine duties include collecting patient histories, clearly explaining procedures, performing visual acuity tests, and operating standard refraction equipment such as phoropters and autorefractors. The role also entails documenting findings in patient records, liaising with eye care professionals regarding recommended prescriptions, and facilitating smooth patient flow within the clinic.

Responsibilities

• Conduct objective and subjective refraction to ascertain patients' precise vision prescriptions.
• Take detailed patient medical histories and explain diagnostic procedures in understandable terms.
• Perform visual acuity testing and operate refraction devices including phoropters and autorefractors.
• Maintain accurate patient records documenting all findings and assessments.
• Coordinate with ophthalmologists and optometrists regarding prescription recommendations.
• Assist in managing patient schedules to ensure efficient clinic workflow.
• Keep the examination area clean and adhere to all clinical and safety protocols.
• Communicate professionally and empathetically with patients to enhance their care experience.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Demonstrated proficiency in clinical refraction techniques and use of refraction instruments.
• Understanding of fundamental ophthalmic terms, vision testing procedures, and eye care standards.
• Keen attention to detail with the capability to maintain accurate and timely documentation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient and team interactions.
• Availability for full-time on-site work in Salem with ability to manage consistent patient flow.
• Possession of a certificate, diploma, or formal education in optometry, ophthalmic technology, or related field; relevant work experience is preferred.
