About the team

The Application Services team sits within an award-winning ICT division and helps ensure electricity is delivered across New Zealand every hour of every day. The team manages and develops complex, business-critical systems that are central to the country’s electricity infrastructure and electricity market operations.

The application landscape includes systems of record such as market systems, SCADA, transmission applications, core finance, asset management, and HR platforms, along with customer-facing and integration solutions including CRM, customer portals, B2B integration, and mobile applications. The team delivers work under the guidance of Strategy and Architecture and follows enterprise standards.

What you will do

As the Senior Platform Engineer, you will work closely with both development and operations groups, taking ownership of platform-related work across design, build, configuration, maintenance, and support. Your contribution will cover project delivery as well as ongoing operational needs.

You will apply strong DevOps and platform engineering practices to system setup, configuration, automation, and tool upkeep, helping strengthen the existing delivery toolchain and supporting reliable, highly available services across Linux and Windows environments.

Key responsibilities

• Own and improve application platform capability across project work and day-to-day operations.
• Configure, maintain, and support tooling and automation used for builds, deployments, monitoring, and service delivery.
• Strengthen platform reliability and availability across Linux and Windows-based environments.
• Lead technical investigation and delivery activities to resolve complex issues and improve service performance.
• Work across development and operations teams to support consistent, stable platform outcomes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of platform practices, tooling, and operational processes.

What we are looking for

This role suits a customer-oriented platform engineer with experience in software development, system administration, or systems operations in complex enterprise environments. Different combinations of experience will be considered, as long as the overall background aligns with the role.

You should be able to demonstrate hands-on experience maintaining and improving application platforms and management tools in large, complex organisations. Strong automation, scripting, and configuration management capability is important, especially across build, integration, deployment, monitoring, and support work.

We are also looking for someone with strong troubleshooting and analytical ability, who can take the lead on technical activities, solve difficult issues, and help improve reliability and performance. Collaboration, clear communication, and a willingness to mentor others and share knowledge are also important.
