Role Overview
We are recruiting a Senior Server Administrator to manage and lead the Windows server infrastructure and virtualization systems, as well as oversee disaster recovery processes. This role entails technical ownership of complex issues, overseeing upgrades and migrations, ensuring service-level compliance, and guiding a team of server administrators.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and operate Windows Server platforms spanning versions 2008 through 2019.
- Perform hands-on VMware troubleshooting and configuration of high-availability, distributed resource scheduling, live migration, and affinity rules.
- Lead critical or emergency changes in collaboration with clients and project stakeholders.
- Serve as an expert in VMware SRM, clustering, data storage management, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Facilitate incident post-mortem bridges, conduct detailed root cause analyses and oversee the implementation of corrective measures.
- Drive the complete lifecycle of server migration and upgrade projects with careful documentation and adherence to change policies.
- Promote automation and scripting efforts to streamline repetitive operational tasks among the team.
- Monitor and report on SLA adherence for server administration services.
- Administer Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) for patch management, software packaging, and deployment across servers.
- Configure and manage virtual GPU resources to support workloads requiring GPU acceleration in the virtualized environment.
- Lead vulnerability management including scanning, risk evaluation, remediation tracking, and ensuring patch compliance for servers.
- Monitor Security Operations Center (SOC) alerts, analyze and triage security incidents related to servers.
- Collaborate closely with cybersecurity teams to enforce hardening policies, access controls, and compliance standards.
- Coordinate remediation plans with server owners and stakeholders for security findings.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to server administrators, handling task assignments, performance reviews, and development.
- Manage on-call schedules, including weekend change windows and shift rotations.
- Represent server administration in incident, change, and problem management forums.
- Drive adoption of ITIL best practices and continuous process improvements.
- Act as primary escalation contact for server-related operational issues from clients and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 8 to 10 years’ experience in server administration and remote infrastructure management, with at least 2 years in a leadership or mentoring capacity.
- Strong technical proficiency with VMware virtualization including HA, DRS, V-Motion, and affinity rules.
- Expertise with VMware SRM, clusters, datastores, and disaster recovery planning.
- Proven ability to manage complex incidents and conduct thorough root cause analysis.
- Experience leading technical teams and supervising their work.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell for automation of server tasks.
- Solid understanding of ITIL frameworks and process adherence.
- Hands-on experience using MECM for patching and software deployment management at scale.
- Familiarity with vulnerability management tools and remediation workflows.
- Experience participating in or leading SOC alert monitoring and security incident analysis.
- Good understanding of cybersecurity concepts and applying server hardening techniques.
- Experience with virtual GPU allocation and management within virtual environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as VMware VCP or Microsoft Hyper-V.
- ITIL certification.
- Previous formal training in people management and leadership.
