Role Overview

The Physiological Sensing R&D team develops and clinically validates advanced monitoring technologies, including anaesthesia, sedation, respiratory, pulse oximetry, and regional oximetry monitoring. They integrate predictive algorithms and clinical decision support to empower clinicians in surgical and critical care environments.

The Senior Test Engineer will design, implement, and qualify automated and semi-automated test systems for physiologic monitoring devices such as pulse oximetry, regional oximetry, and EEG-based technologies. This role involves creating and executing detailed test cases to verify functional and performance standards and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Translate system and subsystem requirements into detailed test cases, procedures, and automated scripts.
• Develop, execute, and troubleshoot manual and automated tests, ensuring thorough coverage including normal, boundary, and fault conditions.
• Contribute to designing and qualifying automated test systems for physiological monitoring devices and subsystems.
• Create and maintain documentation for test cases, procedures, and scripts aligned with system requirements.
• Perform functional, performance, regression, exploratory, and fault-injection testing.
• Operate and configure test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, simulators, and data acquisition systems.
• Analyze test outcomes to identify defects or anomalies, documenting findings and root cause hypotheses.
• Collaborate with software, hardware, systems, and quality teams to troubleshoot issues and verify corrections.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years, or Master's degree with at least 2 years relevant experience, or PhD with no experience required.
• Hands-on expertise in developing and executing manual, automated, or semi-automated test cases for complex electromechanical or embedded systems.
• Experience with test automation tools and scripting/programming languages such as Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++.
• Familiarity with test instruments including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, simulators, and data acquisition tools.
• Strong knowledge of requirements-based testing, traceability, and comprehensive test coverage.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze test data, identify failure modes, and produce well-documented results with root cause analysis.
• Proven troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and system interfaces, working collaboratively across teams.
• Understanding of medical device development processes and quality systems, including verification and validation in regulated environments preferred.
• Skilled in creating and maintaining thorough test documentation such as plans, protocols, procedures, and reports.
• Knowledge of design-for-testability principles to enhance product quality and reduce risks.
• Effective communication skills to present technical analysis and recommendations to peers and stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet project deadlines with high-quality output.
• Experience with automated test frameworks like Robot Framework or LabVIEW is advantageous.

The salary range for this position in Ireland is between 64,640 and 96,960 EUR annually. The role qualifies for participation in the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP), a short-term incentive scheme.
