Solution Architect

Role Overview

Join the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand as a Solution Architect within the Digital Transformation and Technology team on a fixed-term contract. You will play a central role in a significant business transformation programme that impacts the whole organisation, leading the design of future business, application, data, technology, and security architectures. This position will influence key strategic technology decisions shaping the future of New Zealand’s aviation regulation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead solution architecture development across diverse projects and workstreams to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles and programme goals
• Define and oversee both target and transition-state architectures that support the organisation’s transformation plan
• Maintain architectural standards, patterns, governance frameworks, and technology roadmaps to ensure quality and consistency
• Convert strategic business objectives into practical architecture solutions and delivery methodologies
• Perform architecture evaluations, impact assessments, and option analyses to enable sound decision-making
• Design complex integrated solutions balancing security, resilience, functionality, performance, and supportability
• Establish integration standards and patterns facilitating seamless data exchange between internal systems and external partners
• Guide architecture leadership throughout delivery phases, making sure solutions meet approved design and business targets

Candidate Profile

• Relevant qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience
• Proven extensive experience in IT development and solution architecture across enterprise environments
• Deep understanding of enterprise architecture concepts and practical application
• Familiarity with architecture and governance frameworks such as TOGAF, COBIT, ITIL, and Prince2
• Experience applying architecture methodologies in agile, hybrid, or traditional delivery models
• Exceptional stakeholder management skills with capability to influence at all organizational levels
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities, with knack for translating complex ideas into actionable business results
• Experience in producing architecture roadmaps, solution designs, and governance processes in large-scale or complex environments

Additional Information

• The salary range for this role is $136,939 to $168,191 NZD, with starting salary dependent on experience and internal parity.
