About the Role
The Enterprise Strategy team at REI plays a critical role in shaping the cooperative's future by establishing vision, goals, and comprehensive strategic plans. This team identifies key opportunities, defines strategic priorities, and directs investments to achieve the organization's objectives.
The Strategy Manager is integral to developing impactful division-level or initiative strategies aligned with REI's long-term goals. This role works across departments to convert strategies into actionable plans, facilitate cross-functional collaboration, and maintain momentum on vital projects. This position merges strategic insight with strong analytical skills to ensure initiatives are based on solid frameworks and produce measurable results.
Additionally, the Strategy Manager leads REI’s efforts in competitive strategy, keeping a close watch on industry trends and competitor activities, identifying potential threats and opportunities, and providing recommendations to guide enterprise priorities and decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and planning of enterprise-wide strategy, including REI's long-term vision, three-year plans, and economic modeling in partnership with Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A).
- Carry out targeted analyses to assist in strategy formulation at enterprise, divisional, and initiative levels.
- Partner with executive leadership to define, advance, and implement essential strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment, accountability, and progress.
- Act as a thought leader within the cooperative by synthesizing market, consumer, and macroeconomic insights to identify risks and opportunities impacting current and future strategies. Advise senior leaders on competitive and industry developments.
- Facilitate collaboration across divisions by influencing stakeholders to drive consensus, decision-making, and accountability related to strategic priorities.
- Assist in the creation of internal communications and Board of Directors materials to clearly convey strategic content and processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as business or economics; MBA preferred.
- Over seven years of experience in industry and competitive analysis, financial modeling, and economic evaluation.
- Strong strategic thinking with the ability to tackle ambiguous challenges by defining clear viewpoints and breaking them down into hypotheses and frameworks.
- Advanced analytical skills combined with sound judgment to uncover insights and support data-driven decision making.
- Proactive in challenging assumptions, encouraging innovative thinking, and collaborating effectively while being open to different perspectives.
- Ability to distill complex information into concise, easy-to-understand narratives and compelling visual presentations tailored for senior and Board audiences.
- Demonstrated enterprise-wide thinking, balancing divisional strategies with overall organizational goals, and anticipating cross-impact of decisions.
- Energetic, positive attitude with resilience and a 'can-do' approach.
- Proven track record in managing multiple priorities in fast-paced, evolving environments with minimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport and collaborate both internally and externally.
- Ability to synthesize diverse inputs, including feedback, to inform sound decision-making.
- Execution-oriented with efficient resource use, deadline compliance, and communication of progress and plans.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least seven years of experience in retail, consumer goods, finance, or management consulting sectors.
- Effective work management skills including goal setting, prioritization, and planning to deliver quality outcomes.
- Familiarity with AI productivity tools such as Copilot.

Compensation and Benefits
The annual pay range for this position is $98,300 to $157,400, reflecting factors such as experience, skills, and geographic location. REI also provides all regular employees with an employee discount, health benefits, retirement savings plans, and accrued time off.
