Tufting Maintenance Technician D - 3rd Shift

Position Overview

This role supports the Tufting and Warping departments by operating automated blade block sharpening machines and maintaining the flow of blade block assemblies to carpet production locations in Dalton, GA. The shift schedule is Sunday through Thursday from 11 PM to 7 AM.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand basic equipment functions to assist with operational familiarity and upkeep tasks.
• Perform general maintenance duties around the facility including repair work in offices, restrooms, and grounds.
• Carry out routine inspections and setups related to safety, environmental checks, and operational data collection such as utility meter readings.
• Conduct repetitive parts replacement requiring precision measurement and quality validation.
• Support higher-level reliability technicians with tasks including job-site prep and cleanup, parts and tool transport, powered industrial truck (PIT) operation, and painting.
• Apply lubrication and greasing, support hot work and confined space safety monitoring.
• Manage delivery and pickup of blade blocks, including driving a box truck to transport these components to various tufting facilities.
• Manually load and unload trays into and from systems and move tray carts within the facility.
• Replace blades when indicated and change grinding wheels, lubricants, and filters as part of preventative maintenance on grinding and auxiliary equipment.
• Adhere to operating procedures for the blade block grinding station and escalate any issues appropriately.
• Follow all applicable safety protocols including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and asset protection management (APM).
• Maintain cleanliness of the work area and enter work orders into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) as necessary.
• Propose process improvements and participate in departmental meetings and training to enhance job performance.
• Manage time efficiently to process blade blocks and deliver completed sets to local plants, ensuring quality through checks for sharpness, blade spacing, fastener security, and damage.

Physical and Other Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand intermittently for 8 to 12 hours and climb steps multiple times daily.
• Frequent walking throughout the plant and tolerance to varying temperature and humidity.
• Capability to apply necessary force when using tools.
• Effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
• Support a harassment-free work environment and uphold corporate policies.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

• Operates box trucks safely with a valid driver's license and clean driving history for the last three years.
• Knowledge of safety practices including LOTO, confined space entry, PPE, PIT operation, fall protection, hoisting and rigging, and hot work procedures.
• Use of calculators and computers for documentation such as orders and requisitioning.
• Basic math including arithmetic and unit conversions.
• Ability to read, interpret, and create simple sketches, and an understanding of common tools and their proper uses.
• Skills in precision alignment for mechanical components and power transmission maintenance.
• Foundational troubleshooting abilities for assigned mechanical equipment.
• Familiarity with various hand tools and support equipment plus gauge parts.

Safety & Security

• Comply with and enforce all plant safety regulations and procedures.
• Know evacuation routes and muster locations for emergencies.

Shift Details

The position is an 8-hour, non-rotating night shift starting at 11 PM from Sunday to Thursday, aligning with the established production calendar.
