Role Overview
The Assistant Manager in Cloud Operations will oversee daily management, stability, security, governance, and efficiency for cloud environments running on Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This position collaborates with infrastructure, security, application teams, service desk, vendors, managed service providers, and business stakeholders to ensure cloud platforms are stable, secure, cost-effective, and meet organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support everyday cloud activities on Azure and GCP platforms.
- Continuously monitor cloud infrastructure to assess health, availability, performance, capacity, and incident status.
- Assist with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) functions such as availability tracking, incident handling, reliability enhancements, and automation efforts.
- Coordinate incident management, service requests, escalation procedures, and perform root cause analyses for cloud services.
- Implement and maintain cloud governance frameworks including policies, standards, tagging, and compliance requirements.
- Analyze and optimize cloud expenditures through cost reviews, usage audits, reserved capacity management, rightsizing, and resource cleanups.
- Liaise with vendors, service providers, and internal teams to address and resolve operational concerns.
- Support native cloud backup solutions, disaster recovery planning, high availability configurations, and business continuity strategies.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation including runbooks, architectural diagrams, and knowledge bases.
- Uphold cloud security practices involving identity and access management (IAM), network safety measures, patching, vulnerability fixes, encryption, and access governance.
- Contribute to automation and Infrastructure as Code initiatives using tools such as Terraform.
- Monitor key operational metrics like availability, incident resolution rates, SLA adherence, policy compliance, cost optimization, reliability statistics, and documentation completeness.
- Participate in change management, release planning, and ensuring operational readiness.
- Support audit activities, compliance verification, and risk mitigation efforts related to Azure and GCP cloud infrastructure.
Requirements
- At least five years of practical experience in cloud operations, cloud engineering, infrastructure management, SRE, or similar roles.
- Proven working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform environments.
- Familiarity with cloud networking, identity management, compute resources, storage solutions, monitoring utilities, backup systems, security protocols, and high availability concepts.
- Experience managing incidents, problems, changes, and service requests effectively.
- Understanding of SRE methodologies including monitoring, alerting, incident response, root cause investigation, and continual improvement efforts.
- Knowledge of ITIL frameworks and IT service management tools.
- Strong grasp of cloud security fundamentals such as IAM, role-based access control (RBAC), network security groups, firewalls, encryption, vulnerability handling, and regulatory compliance.
- Capability to collaborate with external vendors, managed service providers, and cross-department teams.
- Excellent troubleshooting abilities along with clear communication, documentation proficiency, and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Preferred experience with automation and scripting technologies like Terraform, PowerShell, or Python.
