Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Azure Data Migration Engineer to facilitate the transition of Capital Market Investment Analytics assets to Snowflake and Azure Cloud platforms. This role includes a hybrid work arrangement requiring 3 days onsite per week in Toronto. You will collaborate closely with software developers and investment professionals, reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Solution & Quality Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and implement a data and cloud migration framework to accelerate asset transfer to Snowflake and Azure Cloud platforms.
- Assist in migrating data pipelines and ETL processes to cloud infrastructure.
- Maintain and enhance software solutions and infrastructure crucial to systematic investment processes including trading and research.
- Promote continuous improvement by endorsing software and data engineering best practices, especially for deployment and asset management in cloud environments.
- Design and improve solutions supporting Capital Markets investment desks.
- Manage work deliverables, communicate progress actively, and participate in agile ceremonies and planning.
- Stay current with new technologies and trends through ongoing learning and experimentation.
- Evaluate and recommend adoption of new technologies when relevant.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in quantitative fields like Engineering or Computer Science.
- Strong foundation in information systems theory, concepts, and methods.
- Over 5 years in software design and development, including a minimum of 3 years as a data engineer, preferably in financial services.
- Ability to communicate technical details effectively to both IT professionals and business users with limited technical background.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven experience in constructing data analytics and engineering solutions such as data pipelines and ETL workflows.
- Specialized expertise in migrating Data and Data Engineering assets to cloud environments, including migration to Snowflake.
- Preferred experience migrating analytic scripts (e.g., Python scripts) to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
- Hands-on knowledge of technologies including Snowflake, Airflow/Astronomer, SQL Server, Oracle, stored procedures; familiarity with DBT and SSIS is advantageous.
- Experience with container technologies like Kubernetes and Docker.
- Expertise in cloud technologies, particularly Azure and AKS.
- Familiarity with DevOps and Agile tools such as Git, Jenkins, Jira, and Nexus.
- Knowledge of reporting tools like PowerBI is a plus.
- Experience with web frameworks like Streamlit, React, Flask, FastAPI, or Django is optional but beneficial.
- Proficient in programming languages SQL and Python.
- Exposure to financial data providers like Bloomberg, Refinitiv, or S&P Xpressfeed is beneficial.
- Experience leveraging AI models and code assistants (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Sonnet, Copilot) for cloud and data migration tasks is desirable.
- Track record of working in Agile environments using methodologies like Test-Driven Development, Continuous Delivery, and Scrum.
- Experience migrating web applications (e.g., React/Django) to cloud platforms like Azure/AKS is preferred.
- Previous experience in the financial sector is mandatory; credentials such as Canadian Securities Course or CFA candidacy add value.
Additional Information
This position is a 12-month contract offering an hourly pay rate ranging between $90 and $100. The work model is hybrid with three days per week onsite in Toronto, Ontario. Our hiring process includes AI-driven applicant screening.
