Role overview
This position involves maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of the main Cathedral building, both independently and as part of a team. The work covers a range of spaces including offices, food service outlets, and retail areas whenever required.
The successful candidate will help keep the Cathedral looking its best, ensure spaces are left clean and orderly after events or activities, and work under the guidance of the Cleaning Supervisor, Operations Manager, or another staff member leading the team.
Key duties
- Carry out cleaning tasks across the Cathedral and diocesan buildings as instructed.
- Clean glazed surfaces every day where needed.
- Empty waste containers and take rubbish to the nominated disposal point.
- Maintain a tidy environment in cooperation with the rest of the cleaning team.
- Assist with washing, drying, and ironing liturgical linens and vestments.
- Clean toilets and washrooms and restock toiletries and other general supplies.
- Use mechanical cleaning equipment such as buffing machines and floor scrubbers.
- Perform other reasonable tasks connected to the role when requested by management or team leaders.
Health and safety
- Help keep all staff, visitor, and contractor-accessible areas safe and secure by reporting hazards, defects, or security concerns to the Operations Manager or Team Leader.
- Take responsibility for your own safety and that of others.
- Follow all required safety procedures at all times.
Working pattern
The cleaning team operates across seven days on a rota. Shifts are six hours long and may start at 7:00am, 8:00am, or 1:00pm. The rota follows a five-week rolling cycle.

The post holder is expected to support the aims and ethos of the Church of England and actively align with the Mission and Values of Liverpool Cathedral.
