Country Manager - Australia

About the Role

The Country Manager position based in Australia (Sydney or Melbourne) reports directly to the Head of the Strategic Business Unit (SBU). The primary objective is to spearhead the company's expansion and growth in the Australian market by managing local operations, forging strategic relationships with customers, and ensuring full compliance with regulatory and business standards. The role holds full accountability for the country's overall performance, covering revenue growth, profitability, market penetration, and organizational development.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulate and implement a growth strategy for Australia that aligns with the broader SBU and corporate goals.
• Analyze market opportunities, competitive landscape, and major growth drivers to guide decision-making.
• Set up and strengthen the company's presence and market position locally.
• Develop and nurture relationships with healthcare providers, distributors, industry associations, and key partners.
• Achieve annual targets regarding sales, market share, and profitability.
• Increase direct hospital business and actively manage participation in tender processes.
• Create and carry out strategic plans for main accounts.
• Spot and evaluate new ventures, alliances, and licensing prospects.
• Develop a viable product pipeline through portfolio management and licensing deals.
• Lead the launch efforts for complex generics, specialty medicines, immediate launches, and differentiated products.
• Work in tandem with regulatory teams to ensure timely product approvals and registrations.
• Assume full responsibility for the country’s profit and loss statements.
• Prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and comprehensive business plans.
• Track and optimize revenue, profit margins, cost management, and overall operational performance.
• Ensure profitable and sustainable business growth.
• Guarantee adherence to Australian legal, regulatory, pharmacovigilance, and corporate governance standards.
• Supervise local product registrations, market authorizations, and quality compliance activities.
• Serve as the official local representative of the company when necessary.
• Recruit, lead, and nurture a results-oriented and high-performing local team.
• Promote a culture grounded in responsibility, teamwork, and customer orientation.
• Maintain operational excellence and ensure business continuity for local operations.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Business, or a related discipline; an MBA is preferred.
• Have 12 to 15 or more years of professional experience within the pharmaceutical or healthcare sectors, with extensive knowledge of the Australian market.
• Demonstrated success in roles covering country management, business growth, sales leadership, and overall profit and loss stewardship.
• In-depth understanding of the Australian healthcare system, including hospital operations, tender procedures, and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience in portfolio planning, product launches, and scaling business operations.
• Excellent leadership capabilities, stakeholder engagement, negotiating abilities, and communication skills.
