ملازمت کی تفصیل
Company Overview
Tick Control Innovations Initiative Ltd is a research-focused organisation working on new immunological approaches to prevent and manage tick-borne diseases in livestock, a major agricultural concern in Uganda. The organisation is developing TicVac-U®, a candidate anti-tick vaccine under research in Uganda. Through a mix of strong scientific methods and local production capability, TCIIL works to strengthen animal health, farmer incomes, and food security, while building solutions that can scale within Uganda and internationally.
Role Summary
The Data Engineer will be based on-site and will partner with teams across R&D, clinical operations, IT, and laboratory operations. The position centres on creating, improving, and maintaining data pipelines that support vaccine research, clinical studies, and production tracking. The role also includes building and refining data models and warehouse structures so that data from lab systems, field trials, and operational workflows remains accurate, easy to access, and protected.
Key Work Areas
Day-to-day work will involve pulling raw information from laboratory instruments such as sequencers and spectrometers, as well as from LIMS and ERP systems. The Data Engineer will clean and prepare data, develop and run ETL workflows, connect data from several sources, and help deliver analytics that guide scientific and business decisions. The role further requires documenting data architecture, strengthening data quality, and working with stakeholders to translate their needs into dependable data solutions.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should bring a strong background in data engineering and data warehousing, with the ability to build scalable data infrastructure. Practical capability in data modelling and ETL design is also required, along with the ability to use analytics to support research insights, reporting, and decision-making. Strong SQL skills and proficiency in at least one common data engineering language, such as Python or Java, are needed. Experience with relational or NoSQL databases and familiarity with data integration tools or frameworks will be important. Candidates should also understand data security, governance, and sound practices for managing scientific research and operational data. A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience, is expected. The role calls for someone who can work well with multidisciplinary teams and explain technical ideas clearly to non-technical colleagues. Experience in scientific, healthcare, or agricultural research settings will be considered an advantage.
