Position Overview
The Division Chief / Fire Marshal position, based in Englewood, FL, serves as the Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Coordinator. This leadership role is responsible for managing and guiding the Community Risk Reduction Division with a focus on fire prevention, code enforcement, public education, fire investigation, and initiatives aimed at minimizing community incidents and enhancing public safety.
The role ensures strict adherence to all relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations, while modernizing CRR strategies through data-driven and risk-based approaches. Reporting directly to the Fire Chief, this role is a vital part of the department's executive leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Community Risk Reduction Division, overseeing fire prevention and enforcement activities.
- Manage public education efforts and conduct thorough fire investigations.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce risk and incident severity in the community.
- Ensure departmental compliance with applicable regulations, codes, and ordinances.
- Align CRR operations with modern, data-informed risk management practices.
- Collaborate as a key executive team member reporting to the Fire Chief.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, Emergency Management, or related discipline; Master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in fire service.
- Minimum of 5 years in supervisory or command positions.
- High school diploma required.
Licensure and Certifications
- Current Florida Class E Driver's License.
- Florida Minimum Standards Firefighter Certification.
- Florida EMT or Paramedic Certification.
- Florida Fire Safety Inspector I Certification.
- Florida Fire Investigator Certification.
- Minimum Fire Officer II certification, with preference for Fire Officer III or IV.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification.
Compensation
The starting salary for this role is $83,000 annually.
