EHS Specialist

Overview

A prominent global company in the flexible packaging industry is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist for a full-time, permanent onsite position based in County Donegal, Ireland. The role focuses on supporting organizational goals through the planning and execution of environmental excellence initiatives, while maintaining compliance with government environmental regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and execute environmental policies and procedures, including documentation, record maintenance, reporting, inspections, monitoring, and testing.
• Support the EHS team across all environmental, health, and safety activities as required.
• Maintain compliance with local environmental laws by monitoring regulatory changes, interpreting requirements, and applying necessary updates to programs and policies.
• Deliver environmental training to employees at various levels to ensure understanding and adherence to relevant regulations across all facilities.
• Perform and document ongoing environmental audits and inspections to verify compliance with permits and regulatory standards.
• Organize and coordinate visits from internal and external regulatory bodies and prepare annual environmental reports for local EPA authorities, covering areas such as air, waste, and water.
• Manage environmental compliance with IPC licence conditions, including VOC abatement monitoring, stormwater sampling, hazard and non-hazard waste management, and related reporting.
• Oversee site environmental programs oriented toward cost control, accident prevention, behavior safety audits, and risk assessments.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in line with safety protocols and EPA regulations.
• Collaborate with the team to implement environmental, energy, and sustainability objectives and targets.
• Foster a culture of continuous environmental performance improvement by reviewing existing programs, pinpointing enhancement opportunities, and developing strategic improvement plans in partnership with site management.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and secure management of proprietary information.
• Update environmental data accurately on the EDEN portal as required.
• Fulfill any additional reasonable duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills Required

• Degree or qualification in Environmental Studies.
• Minimum of 2 years experience within a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Proven experience liaising with regulatory bodies such as HSA, EPA, County Council, Inland Fisheries Ireland, etc.
• Ability to interpret complex regulatory standards and requirements effectively.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite for documentation and reporting.
• Strong collaborative approach with ability to engage effectively with employees, environmental teams, and external stakeholders at various levels.
• Proactive problem-solving skills with innovative thinking for continuous improvement.
• Excellent attention to detail, strong record management, and leadership to drive results.
• Self-motivated with a can-do attitude, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
