Overview
Our client is a rapidly expanding and commercially vibrant company engaged in events, memberships, sponsorship, merchandise, and media sectors. They are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Financial Controller who will assume full responsibility for managing their financial processes.
Role Summary
This is a hands-on position that goes beyond traditional back-office finance functions. The candidate will vigilantly monitor every financial transaction, identify risks promptly, and provide management with actionable insights and recommendations rather than just numerical reports.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Financial Controller will oversee cash flow, payroll, accounts payable, forecasting, budgeting, and management reporting. Close collaboration with leadership and external accountants is essential to ensure the company maintains financial robustness and readiness for investment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day cash flow, banking, and liquidity for all company entities.
- Prepare ongoing cash flow forecasts and proactively identify potential financial risks.
- Handle payroll, supplier and contractor payments, and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Produce weekly, monthly, and annual management reports, including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and KPI dashboards.
- Conduct budgeting, financial modeling, and variance analysis.
- Manage event budgets and oversee sponsorship revenue streams.
- Coordinate BAS, end-of-financial-year activities, audits, and general compliance.
Candidate Profile
- CPA or CA qualification, or working towards it, with over five years of experience in a senior financial role.
- Proficient in advanced Xero accounting software, Excel, and financial modeling.
- Demonstrates a strong commercial mindset, proactive problem-solving skills, and experience working with SMEs.
- Assertive ownership of duties, early issue detection, and solution-oriented approach.
Additional Details
This position is part-time and requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours weekly, based on-site in Burwood, Victoria. The pro-rated salary ranges from $130,000 to $165,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience. There is potential for a full-time arrangement for the right candidate.
