About the Role
The Junior Data and AI Engineer will be instrumental in building and sustaining robust data pipelines that fuel business decision-making across ZURU's global operations. The position offers hands-on experience working with cutting-edge tools such as Databricks, dbt, Fivetran, and AWS, providing comprehensive exposure to data ecosystems while contributing to scalable and production-grade infrastructure. Ownership of tasks is emphasized from the start.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain pipelines to intake data from systems including SAP, retail POS, logistics platforms, and marketing channels.
- Transform outdated pipelines into scalable, maintainable modern data structures.
- Oversee and enhance data quality, proactively spotting and addressing issues before impacting business outcomes.
- Support and improve the data platform's infrastructure and toolset.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver dependable datasets and actionable insights.
- Participate in end-to-end data processes involving ingestion, transformation, and governance.
- Document workflows, pipeline processes, and insights clearly and comprehensively.
- Drive workflow improvements by incorporating automation and AI technologies.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency in SQL, including complex joins, window functions, and common table expressions.
- Experience with Python scripting for pipeline automation or related tasks.
- Solid understanding of data pipeline architecture and typical points of failure.
- Quick learner with strong problem-solving ability and comfort working in ambiguous environments.
- Excellent communication skills, including the capacity to ask relevant questions and document solutions effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with dbt, Apache Spark, or cloud-based data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
- Exposure to AWS or similar cloud infrastructure.
- Experience managing full data projects from inception to delivery, through academic, personal, or professional channels.
