Machine Learning Engineer - TikTok E-Commerce

Role overview

This role sits within TikTok’s E-Commerce Risk Control team, which is focused on keeping the shopping ecosystem safe for buyers, sellers, creators, and other users. The team works to strengthen the integrity of the e-commerce platform by developing systems, platforms, and technologies in partnership with multiple internal teams and stakeholders.

The work centers on reducing harm caused by fake or deceptive behavior across TikTok E-Commerce products such as TikTok Shop, Jumanji, and Fanno. The risk areas include account integrity, incentive abuse, malicious activity, brushing, click-farm activity, information leakage, and related emerging threats.

This position offers exposure to company-level security strategy and the opportunity to create scalable, resilient, intelligent, privacy-conscious, and product-friendly solutions for new and evolving platform risks. The environment is fast-moving and requires practical, transferable solutions that can deliver clear impact quickly.

What you will do

• Design and develop rules, algorithms, and machine learning models to detect and reduce business risks across TikTok products and platforms.
• Investigate business and security data to uncover new attack patterns, identify gaps in current defenses, and discover new areas for risk control.
• Define risk-control metrics and measure, generalize, and monitor business and operational indicators tied to risk.
• Work with risk teams and stakeholders to align on numeric targets and encourage data-driven, impact-focused science practices.
• Support the deployment of scalable and efficient AI and machine learning models in production.
• Build methods for extracting, transforming, and loading large volumes of real-time, unstructured data into AI/ML solutions.
• Run experiments on deployed models, evaluate results, and troubleshoot bugs or performance issues that appear during deployment.

Qualifications

The role calls for a bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, statistics, mathematics, internet security, or another relevant STEM field. Degrees in finance may also be suitable for financial-fraud-related work.

You should bring at least 5 years of strong data science experience, along with solid proficiency in statistical and analytical tools such as SQL, R, and Python.

Experience with machine learning or analytics for social/content platforms is preferred, and familiarity with modern machine learning applications will be an advantage. The team also values strong critical thinking, objective judgment, clear result-oriented communication, and a high degree of autonomy.
