Port Captain

Overview and Key Responsibilities

The Port Captain will manage all aspects of port operations including scheduling of vessels, cargo handling, and upkeep of port facilities. This role requires ensuring adherence to all applicable laws, safety protocols, and regulations governing port activities. The successful candidate will develop and enforce operational procedures aimed at enhancing port efficiency while overseeing vessel movements, coordinating with port authorities to guarantee punctual arrivals and departures.

Additionally, management of port personnel will be expected, providing leadership and support to facilitate seamless daily operations. Regular inspections of port infrastructure and equipment will be conducted to promptly identify and resolve maintenance or safety concerns. Collaboration across departments is essential to synchronize cargo movements for timely client deliveries.

The role also entails maintaining comprehensive and precise documentation of port activities, including vessel logs, cargo handling details, and associated expenses. Preparation of reports and presentations for management and stakeholders is key. The Port Captain must stay informed on maritime industry trends to drive continuous improvement and innovation within operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, or a closely related discipline.
• At least five years of professional experience in a comparable role within port management or the shipping industry.
• Demonstrated expertise in port and vessel operations as well as cargo handling protocols.
• Strong leadership capabilities paired with excellent communication skills.
• Ability to perform well under pressure and make rapid decisions.
• Detail orientation coupled with effective problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software applications.
• Fluent command of English, both written and spoken.
