About the Role

The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) seeks a dedicated Program Manager to support its Animal Law Education & Scholarship Program (ALESP) and Transparency & Regulatory Affairs Program (TRAP). This full-time exempt position reports to the Director of Animal Law Education and Scholarship and is based remotely within the U.S.

Organization Mission

ALDF works to protect animal lives and promote their interests through legal avenues by pursuing impactful lawsuits, aiding prosecutors in holding abusers accountable, advocating for robust animal protection laws, monitoring and regulating industries exploiting animals, and offering resources and education to students and professionals advancing animal law.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and administer scholarships, grants, fellowships, and travel grant programs related to animal law education, including outreach, application tracking, award distribution, and reporting.
Collaborate with the Events team to organize the annual Student Animal Law Convention, overseeing registration and event logistics.
Maintain comprehensive databases tracking animal law courses, Student Animal Legal Defense Fund chapters, and program metrics, supporting annual reporting.
Develop and update educational resources and web content for students, faculty, and practitioners in animal law.
Coordinate webinars, speaker events, conferences, and other educational activities in partnership with internal teams.
Support transparency efforts by managing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and public records requests, overseeing correspondence with agencies, and tracking records related to USDA enforcement activities and other regulatory matters.
Analyze and organize regulatory documents and datasets to identify trends and assist advocacy, policy, legal, and communications efforts.
Prepare detailed reports and resources summarizing inspections, enforcement actions, regulated entities, and other animal welfare metrics.
Assist in special research projects involving dataset compilation, analysis, and presentation preparation.
Support the development of operational systems and processes to expand ALESP initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in pre-law, psychology, sociology, communication, political science, animal studies, animal science, or related fields; or equivalent with at least five years of relevant experience.
Minimum five years of professional experience in nonprofit, higher education, legal, advocacy, or research settings.
Proven experience managing grants, scholarships, fellowships, or competitive educational programs.
Event coordination experience including conferences, trainings, and webinars.
Strong research skills including literature reviews and public records research.
Proficiency in handling and analyzing large datasets and document collections.
Knowledge of FOIA requests, government transparency, regulatory agencies, and related workflows.
Exceptional multitasking, organizational, problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
Familiarity with higher education or curriculum management preferred.
Knowledge of animal protection issues is advantageous.
Excellent interpersonal and emotional intelligence abilities to foster collaborative relationships.
Strong written and verbal communication skills targeting students, faculty, legal professionals, and donors.
Experience developing evaluative reports, dashboards, and educational materials.
Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and comfort using databases and project management tools.
Commitment to ALDF's mission to protect animal rights.
Willingness to travel occasionally for staff meetings and retreats (approximately 1–2 trips annually).

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary ranges from $95,100 to $105,110 annually depending on geographic location with no negotiation outside published rates.
