Position Summary
Joining the expanding BILH team means contributing significantly to impacting patient lives. Under the guidance of a principal investigator, this role involves performing various routine laboratory experiments utilizing techniques in molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. Essential duties include detailed data recording, calculation, transcription, and statistical analysis using basic methods.
Core Responsibilities
- Execute routine assays and laboratory tests such as DNA sequencing, tissue culture, protein purification, Southern blotting, PCR analysis, electrophoresis, and chromatography, following established protocols.
- Collect fundamental study data via monitoring tools and maintain systematic daily logs and records of methods and results. Under supervision, utilize databases to summarize and interpret findings through descriptive statistics and basic hypothesis testing.
- Perform literature and library research pertinent to assigned studies.
- Demonstrate adaptability by adjusting to evolving research projects and lab environments.
- Participate in Medical Center safety lectures and additional knowledge-enhancing courses and conferences.
- Provide guidance by demonstrating routine lab procedures and tests to students and other research staff as needed.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Up to one year of relevant work experience.
- Familiarity with computer systems, including web applications and Microsoft Office suite tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access.
- Decision-making aligned with established standards and procedures requiring minimal supervision.
- Problem-solving abilities focused on routine challenges using clear instructions and process improvement insights.
- Ability to independently follow general instructions while maintaining close supervision.
- Proficient written and oral English communication skills for understanding instructions and interacting respectfully with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Basic knowledge of fundamental scientific concepts applied in routine contexts.
- Teamwork skills to collaborate respectfully with various employees, professional staff, and external contacts.
- Demonstrates a positive, responsive customer service attitude.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform light physical tasks involving exerting up to 20 pounds of force regularly. While some job aspects are sedentary, standing and movement throughout the hospital campus are necessary.
Compensation Details
The hourly wage ranges from $19.23 to $26.44, reflecting base pay before considering seniority, education, certifications, geographic factors, shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, and overtime as applicable by law.
