Job description
Overview
Amazon Web Services (AWS) operates one of the largest global networks supporting the AWS Cloud. To manage this enormous infrastructure, AWS is innovating the design, construction, and operation of networks. Their software controls all network layers, from top-of-rack switches to backbone routers. The goal is to create an intelligent, scalable, and fault-tolerant network ecosystem, ultimately enabling self-managed networks. The Network Lifecycle Management (NLM) team is responsible for developing crucial services supporting this vision.
Role and Team
We are seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a group of engineers in building foundational services within AWS's Software Defined Networking (SDN) framework. The team’s core task is designing and owning a closed-loop system for reserving network entities related to procurement workflows. This service bridges network capacity planning with automation systems and is pivotal to achieving a self-adaptive network architecture.
As a manager, you will guide a motivated group of software developers tackling complex problems by delivering innovative solutions. The team operates at the intersection of network and software engineering, building extensive distributed software using Java, Python, Apache technologies, Celery, Redis, HTTP/REST services, and proprietary AWS tools.
You will collaborate with a wide spectrum of AWS professionals, including hardware and network engineers, supply chain experts, security specialists, and operations managers. Collectively, the team ensures safety, security, and cost-effectiveness in delivering vast network capacity to AWS customers. AWS champions an inclusive culture that welcomes new ideas and encourages ownership through to completion.
