About Midjourney and the Role
Midjourney is an independent research laboratory that explores innovative modes of thinking and strives to enhance human imagination. Operating as a compact, self-supported team, the company emphasizes design, human infrastructure, and artificial intelligence. They seek a skilled visual designer who will define how the Midjourney brand expresses itself publicly. The ideal candidate will have a fresh, confident, and high-caliber design approach that emphasizes visionary and distinctive work rather than conventional trends.
Responsibilities
- Create campaign visuals including advertisements, social media content, and product launches from initial concept to final assets.
- Apply editorial design principles to owned media such as email campaigns, welcome series, blogs, and campaign imagery.
- Develop expressive visual systems that diverge from typical corporate style guides.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to establish the look and feel for both earned and owned media channels.
- Work asynchronously with a small, agile team.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experienced as a senior individual contributor, with approximately 5 to 8 years of relevant experience.
- Possesses a portfolio showcasing culturally relevant and expressive graphic design across editorial, campaign, and identity work in both print and digital formats.
- Expert in typography and composition, with ability to lead as well as execute design campaigns.
- Keeps abreast of visual culture trends spanning art, fashion, publishing, music, and digital platforms.
- Thrives in remote and autonomous work environments.
Additional Preferred Skills
- Background in editorial or publication design, print or digital magazines.
- Experience with motion graphics or illustration.
- Familiarity with generative design tools and techniques.
Position Details
- This is a freelance contract opportunity, initially part-time with potential for expansion.
- The role is fully remote, open to applicants anywhere without travel requirements, though visits to San Francisco are welcomed.
