Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Game Tools and Modding Engineer to contribute remotely on a contract basis. This position involves working on advanced rendering systems, engine-level optimizations, and real-time graphics applications. You will leverage technologies such as DirectX (DX11/12), Vulkan, OpenGL, and similar graphics APIs to enhance game engine pipelines and tools beyond gameplay mechanics.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement game engine features and systems using C++ and game engines.
- Create and improve tools and modding functionalities associated with games.
- Develop and optimize rendering pipelines, shaders, and real-time graphics components.
- Enhance performance across CPU/GPU, memory, and rendering tasks.
- Expand and maintain pipelines, tools, and engine-level systems that facilitate development.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including designers, artists, and engineers.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex rendering, performance, and compatibility issues.
- Produce clean, well-documented, maintainable code.
- Engage in code reviews and support technical decision processes.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Between 3 to 6 years’ experience in game development or real-time graphics programming.
- Expert-level proficiency in C++ programming.
- Practical experience working with graphics APIs such as DirectX (DX11/12), Vulkan, OpenGL, or Metal.
- In-depth understanding of rendering pipelines and shader programming (HLSL/GLSL).
- Solid grasp of 3D mathematics and real-time graphics principles.
- Experience with Unreal Engine or comparable game engines.
- Knowledge of performance optimization techniques covering CPU/GPU, memory, and multithreading.
- Strong debugging capabilities and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Independent working ability in a remote, distributed team environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Background in engine customization or low-level system development.
- Experience using graphics profiling tools like RenderDoc, PIX, Nsight, etc.
- Work history involving cross-platform or performance-sensitive projects.
- Familiarity with tooling, pipelines, or editor extension development.
- Experience related to multiplayer or large-scale system development.
