About the Role
The Manager of Finest Merchandise is responsible for overseeing merchandise operations for Gallagher Square concerts and full venue concert merchandising at the San Diego Padres. Acting as the primary contact for touring artist merchandise teams, this role manages specialized event staff, ensures precise inventory and financial settlements, handles off-site merchandise logistics, and guarantees an excellent customer experience at all sales points. The manager also provides continuous support for Lock and Go operations during the season and focuses on growing the merchandise business to achieve organizational targets.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee merchandise operations for all Gallagher Square concert events and assist with full venue concert merchandising.
- Serve as the main liaison with touring artists’ merchandise teams for Gallagher Square shows.
- Recruit, train, and lead Sr. Special Event Crew sellers across merchandise and lock and go shifts.
- Perform accurate counting and reconciliation of merchandise inventory before and after each event.
- Prepare and provide settlement reports to artists and venue partners.
- Use AtVenu point-of-sale and inventory software to track sales and generate reports.
- Coordinate logistics and management for off-site merchandise sales.
- Set up and maintain appealing and brand-aligned merchandise displays.
- Maintain inventory controls, prevent loss, and manage equipment.
- Ensure an outstanding guest experience at all merchandise points of sale.
- Report merchandise revenue after each homestand.
- Support Lock and Go event operations throughout the season, including setup and breakdown.
- Perform additional tasks as needed to support the Special Events programming.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Experience in event merchandising, retail operations, or concert/venue event management.
- Proficient with AtVenu or similar merchandise and point-of-sale settlement software.
- Strong skills in inventory reconciliation and financial settlement reporting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact directly with touring teams and partners.
- Proven ability to supervise event-day staff in a dynamic, fast-paced live event setting.
- Highly organized with the capability to manage multiple concurrent events.
- Understanding of merchandising and visual display standards.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and quickly mastering new software.
- Exceptional time management and multitasking abilities to meet strict deadlines.
- Professional demeanor with discretion, integrity, and accountability.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old at employment start.
- High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in merchandising, retail, or event operations.
- At least 2 years of experience managing people.
- Willingness to work during Padres home games and various special events including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Physical ability to access various ballpark areas for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment requirements including background checks.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary for this full-time position ranges from $70,304 to $75,000, determined by experience, education, and job-related skills per California pay transparency laws.
