Mechanical Engineer

Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for engineering tasks involving the planning and design of mechanical tools, engines, machines, and related equipment. Key duties include reviewing and analyzing HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression systems, evaluating mechanical drawings and specifications to ensure they conform to applicable codes and standards, as well as overseeing installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of centralized heat, gas, water, and steam systems. This role supports the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program at Al Udeid Air Base, Doha, Qatar.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in meetings related to projects or investigative assignments.
• Provide construction inspections, quality control oversight, and review submittals that exceed construction managers' expertise.
• Conduct site visits in the local area beyond the military base to verify compliance and quality of ongoing projects.
• Perform additional assigned duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong understanding of engineering principles, project planning, programming, design, management, and construction management.
• Proficient in interpreting plans and technical drawings.
• Effective communication, leadership, and interpersonal capabilities.
• Familiarity with Design Review processes, Project Mobilization, Quality Assurance, Safety standards, Project Controls, and Capture Management.
• Advanced skills with AutoCAD 2025 or newer for facility and infrastructure plan creation.
• Competent in Microsoft Office Suite and Project management software.
• Additional skills may be required depending on contract specifics.
• Experience with central utility plants and energy efficiency technology is highly valued.

Experience and Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
• At least 10 years of experience in construction or facility maintenance.
• Strong proficiency in reviewing HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression system designs and ensuring code compliance.
• Experience handling project development, contracting, and construction documentation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET US Government Clearance (US citizenship required).

Physical and Work Environment

• Work may take place in remote and challenging environments with exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
• Long working hours with potential for sudden relocations.
• Typically office-based with occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, extensive computer use, constant visual and auditory communication, mental focus, organizational skills, and deadline management.
