About the Company and Role

Payward, the parent company behind Kraken and other financial services platforms, has over 15 years of experience in creating a leading global financial infrastructure to promote an open financial system. Kraken, established in 2011, serves millions globally offering various trading and investment services. The Consumer Mobile team develops the Kraken app—a critical interface that deeply values the user's experience, focusing not only on functionality but the way it feels, which is essential for building trust in cryptocurrency transactions.

Role Overview

This position requires a unified approach to design and engineering, treating them as one craft rather than separate functions. Your responsibility includes managing the motion and interaction layers of the Kraken app to enhance user trust through subtle but impactful user experience elements like instantaneous trade confirmations and smooth navigations.

Key Responsibilities

Own the visual interaction elements including motion easing, animations, gestures, transitions, haptics, and sound effects within the Kraken app.
Develop and improve the mobile design system, maintaining essential components such as gesture handlers, animated containers, and motion tokens.
Collaborate closely with product designers to elevate motion and interaction design from concept through to implementation.
Optimize rendering performance especially for lower-end Android devices to prevent frame drops.
Participate in architecture discussions affecting UI responsiveness, including state management and data flow to the view layer.
Set high standards for mobile development practices by leading through example and documentation.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

Possession of a strong portfolio showcasing interaction design work via demos, code repositories or personal sites.
Advanced proficiency in React Native, particularly with Reanimated and gesture handling, including performance profiling and debugging.
Strong aesthetic sense for motion design, understanding nuances like easing curves and spring dynamics.
Excellent product intuition to identify and solve underlying design problems beyond initial briefs.
Experience incorporating AI tools into workflows to increase efficiency on routine tasks.
Fluency in written and spoken English for effective collaboration in a globally distributed team.

Desirable Skills

Experience with React Native Skia, shader programming, or other advanced canvas rendering techniques.
Competence in native development using Swift or Kotlin, particularly for creating bridge modules and platform-specific integrations.
Contributions to motion libraries, design systems, or reusable interaction elements used by other developers.
Background in visual/motion design and prototyping using tools like Figma or After Effects.
Experience in high-stakes industries such as fintech, trading, or healthcare where UI precision is critical.
