Position Overview
The Operator/Labourer role involves providing critical support to the Maintenance team dedicated to preserving the Port's infrastructure and assets. The position demands effective and efficient completion of all maintenance programs related to the Port of Townsville.
Compensation
The annual remuneration for this role ranges from 72909 to 83798 AUD, excluding superannuation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance on Port assets such as wharves, boat ramps, boat moorings, and navigational markers.
- Operate both floating and mobile plant equipment vital to Port operations.
- Execute structural and mechanical repairs, along with installation and commissioning of plant and equipment.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Maintain accurate records of time, materials used, and complete inspection reports while adhering to maintenance schedules.
- Actively contribute to resolving daily operational challenges and refine work methods applied during maintenance.
- Comply strictly with safety protocols including TAKE 5, Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs), and assist in Job Safety Environmental Analyses (JSEAs).
- Carry out regular inspections and functional testing of emergency and pollution control equipment as well as fixed and mobile plant.
- Participate in emergency responses and training to facilitate timely restoration of Port functions.
- Undertake additional duties aligned with the role's scope as directed by leadership.
- Support the Port’s strategic initiatives such as the Statement of Corporate Intent, Corporate Plan, and Port Vision 2050.
- Ensure all work complies with health, safety, environmental, quality, and information security policies and relevant laws.
- Advocate for a Zero Harm culture and continuous enhancement of Health and Safety standards.
Required Qualifications and Certifications
- Valid Queensland C Class Driver Licence.
- Vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus.
- Construction Induction Certification (White Card).
- Medical clearance confirming physical ability to undertake tasks involving handling 20kg.
Experience and Skills
- Prior experience in marine infrastructure maintenance environments is essential.
- Capability to handle frequent manual labor including bending, climbing ladders, working in confined or difficult access areas, standing and walking on uneven and exposed surfaces.
- Proficient in operating construction and maintenance machinery.
- Strong understanding of machinery operation, upkeep techniques, and general construction workflows.
- Knowledgeable regarding workplace health and safety, oil pollution equipment, environmental laws, and risk management practices.
- Able to read and interpret engineering diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
- Capable of independent work with minimal supervision, showing initiative in managing workload.
- Excellent communication abilities and problem-solving aptitude combined with organizational skills.
Technical and Additional Competencies
- Familiarity with general computer usage.
- Ability and willingness to acquire additional qualifications within specified timelines, including but not limited to first aid, CPR, shipboard safety, various driver licences, maritime security identification, equipment operation tickets, height safety permits, and other relevant certifications related to port operations.
