Role Overview

SMBC is looking for an IT Project Manager to drive complex technology programs that support business goals and meet regulatory obligations. The role owns the full project lifecycle, from defining scope and deliverables to managing schedules, budgets, and outcomes. Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and run a Program Management Office (PMO) and Strategic Sourcing Team with clear ownership across the program.
  • Bring in subject matter experts and process owners to support delivery, and communicate impact assessments to build alignment.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, including vendor sourcing, selection, and ongoing performance management.
  • Handle vendor contract negotiation and administration in line with company standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Partner with procurement and legal teams to ensure agreements fit project goals and budget limits.
  • Manage program budgets, address possible overruns, and secure extra funding when required.
  • Use Lean and Agile methods to improve how programs are delivered.
  • Track delivery progress, evaluate results, adjust plans when needed, and keep leaders and stakeholders informed through timely updates.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate brings 5 to 7 years of experience in IT project or program management, with a strong record of delivering large technology implementations. Prior experience managing third-party vendors in technology projects is essential.

A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as PMP or Agile are preferred.

Strong organizational and leadership ability is important, along with experience in risk management, budgeting, stakeholder engagement, and project management methodologies. The role also calls for vendor management capability, including sourcing, negotiation, and performance tracking, plus strategic judgment, comfort with ambiguity, customer orientation, and the ability to lead change.

This position involves reporting to senior technology leadership and overseeing project managers and cross-functional teams.
