About CWILL
CWILL is a comprehensive post-purchase and customer retention platform crafted specifically for Shopify merchants. It enables brands to reduce customer support requests, reclaim revenue lost through returns, and cultivate repeat customers by offering tailored tools for every interaction after purchase.
Role Overview
This position is part of CWILL's R&D Management Trainee program, ideal for freshly graduated engineers or those with limited professional experience. Trainees will be integrated into active product engineering teams working on SaaS solutions ranging from AI-enhanced customer support to SEO enhancement specifically designed for Shopify stores. The role involves hands-on contributions from the onset, with mentorship to develop skills for independent module ownership and technical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop full-stack product features focusing primarily on backend components such as APIs, business logic, data processing, and integration with third-party services.
- Engage in solution design, coding, testing, and deployment activities to deliver features meeting specifications.
- Support production system maintenance by investigating bugs, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing fixes using appropriate monitoring and database analysis tools.
- Contribute to enhancing system stability, performance, and maintainability.
- Collaborate actively within engineering teams by adhering to coding standards, documenting work, participating in code reviews, and improving testing coverage.
- Communicate effectively regarding task progress, potential risks, and obstacles; participate in retrospectives to refine engineering practices.
- Progressively take more responsibility for technical ownership as experience grows.
Candidate Requirements
- Recent graduate (BS or MS) from a U.S. university or individuals within one to two years post-graduation.
- Competent in at least one backend programming language such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, or PHP.
- Fundamental understanding of web technologies including HTTP, REST API design, frontend-backend interaction, and relational database concepts.
- Experience with SQL databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL is required.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, debug methodically, and manage projects to completion with reliability.
- Strong communication skills and proactive problem identification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to React, Node.js, Next.js, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Redis, or Python frameworks.
- Experience or interest in projects involving AI/LLM technologies such as prompt engineering, retrieval augmented generation, chatbots, or content creation.
- Background in Shopify app development, SaaS products, SEO tools, or store technology integration.
- Internship experience in technology or SaaS companies, open-source contributions, or personal technical projects.
- Familiarity with Docker containers, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment workflows, or cloud platforms like AWS or Aliyun.
- Maintaining an active GitHub profile demonstrating consistent contributions.
- Competitive programming participation in contests like ACM or LanQiao Cup.
- Experience with AI-assisted development utilities such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
- Ability to communicate in Mandarin Chinese.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary ranges from $60,000 to $80,000 annually, negotiable based on experience.
