School Cleaner

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated School Cleaner to join our team responsible for maintaining cleanliness across various premises. Reporting to the Cleaning Supervisor or an authorized person, you will contribute by handling cleaning tasks allocated within the facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform sweeping, suction cleaning, mopping, dry buffing, spray cleaning and waxing, machine scrubbing, drying, stripping, and re-polishing of floors using the correct equipment.
• Clean and treat soft floor surfaces such as carpets and mats using appropriate methods.
• Thorough cleaning of toilet and shower areas, including all fixtures and fittings.
• Dust, clean, and polish ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings, and internal surfaces up to a height of 3.35 meters, including furniture polishing when needed.
• Empty internal litter bins, clean them, and transport collected waste to designated disposal points.

Working Conditions and Compliance

• Adherence to Health and Safety legislation including the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, COSHH Regulations, and relevant legal requirements.
• Perform cleaning duties with appropriate protective clothing and flat-soled enclosed footwear.
• Handle issued cleaning equipment responsibly; report any defects immediately.
• Complete all necessary procedural paperwork and cover for colleagues as needed during absences.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

• Familiarity with cleaning requirements in a school environment and the use of cleaning machinery.
• Knowledge of health and safety protocols relevant to cleaning duties, including COSHH.
• Ability to use initiative, manage time effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, and work collaboratively within a team.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to understand and respond to instructions in English.
• Organizational skills and flexibility to carry out instructions promptly and effectively.
• Willingness to engage in training programs related to the role.

Desirable Attributes

• Experience of at least three months cleaning in environments outside the home.
• Proven capability operating a range of commercial cleaning tools such as buffing machines.

• Employment requires undergoing appropriate training to meet statutory health and safety obligations.

• Absences must be reported as per organizational procedures, and proper documentation must be submitted and authorized.
