Role Overview

As a Senior Designer at Gorman, you will spearhead the creative journey of seasonal collections from initial concept to finished items, ensuring consistency with Gorman's unique brand character and sustainability ethos. This full-time position is based onsite at the Abbotsford head office and involves creating original print concepts, developing color palettes, and designing garments and accessories collaboratively with design, production, and merchandising teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct trend and material research to inform design direction.
• Coordinate with internal and external artists through briefing and artwork reviews.
• Produce detailed technical drawings suitable for production.
• Collaborate closely with pattern makers to perfect garment fit and construction.
• Support range planning processes and assist in merchandising decision-making.
• Provide creative leadership and mentorship to junior design staff.
• Work cross-functionally with marketing and retail teams to maintain consistent brand storytelling across products, campaigns, and in-store experiences.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proven background in fashion or textile design, particularly in women's apparel or related categories, complemented by a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in prints, colors, and garment design.
• Advanced proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, with an ability to deliver clear technical illustrations and production-ready artwork.
• Deep knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, fit, and the complete product development cycle from ideation to production.
• Experience in researching trends and cultural/artistic influences and translating these into marketable yet unique designs.
• Familiarity with sustainable materials and ethical manufacturing, alongside a commitment to environmentally conscious fashion practices.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to effectively present ideas, give and receive feedback, and collaborate across teams.
• Leadership experience including mentoring, workload management, and fostering an inclusive studio environment.
• Formal education in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
