Responsibilities

• Build, test, improve, and support production-grade software that helps teams analyze data and make operational decisions.
• Work side by side with scientists, data specialists, and engineers to understand problems and turn them into practical technical solutions.
• Create scalable data flows, internal applications, and platform tooling that convert complicated datasets into usable insights.
• Own projects throughout the full lifecycle, including framing the problem, designing the system, coding, testing, releasing, and iterating after launch.
• Develop a strong understanding of internal data infrastructure and how the software supports wider scientific and business goals.
• Contribute to engineering leadership by guiding teammates and helping deliver projects successfully.
• Strengthen system stability by monitoring services, resolving operational issues, and supporting internal users.
• Take part in technical conversations, share constructive input, and help maintain strong engineering standards.
• Engage with end users directly to understand their day-to-day workflows and ensure the tools truly solve real-world needs.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of software engineering experience, preferably with production cloud-based data systems.
• Strong Python skills, with the ability to write clear, scalable, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Experience designing and building large systems with attention to speed, reliability, and future extensibility.
• Proven ownership of projects from early problem definition through implementation and measurable outcomes.
• Strong analytical thinking and curiosity, plus a willingness to learn unfamiliar domains and technologies.
• Ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly and collaborate effectively with non-technical stakeholders and subject-matter experts.
• Genuine interest in working with scientific teams and using technology to solve difficult real-world problems.
• Comfort operating in a fast-changing, high-ownership environment where priorities may shift.
• Product-focused mindset, with the ability to choose technical approaches that support business goals.
• Helpful additional experience may include React, geospatial data, mapping products, containerization, Docker, AWS ECS, Kubernetes, or natural sciences.
