Systems Engineer

About the Role

This role is distinct from traditional IT Systems Engineering positions, concentrating on complex systems within operational, infrastructure, and defence settings rather than IT infrastructure or support. As part of Beca's Applied Technology division, you will engage with a team dedicated to using systems thinking to tackle complex, real-world challenges. This intermediate Systems Engineer position suits those aiming to grow their existing expertise and enhance their skills further. The work supports New Zealand's civilian and defence sectors, covering varied environments such as aviation, maritime, transport, and public infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and delivery of detailed requirements and specifications throughout the full lifecycle of complex and critical systems.
• Operate within interdisciplinary teams focusing heavily on risk management and safety considerations.
• Collaborate closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to identify needs, define requirements, manage risks, and aid successful project delivery.
• Build and maintain strong relationships in a collaborative environment applying structured and holistic problem-solving approaches.
• Participate in diverse projects across industries, supported by experienced professionals, offering numerous growth and progression opportunities.

Candidate Profile

• At least four years of experience in a comparable systems engineering role.
• Keen interest in understanding and managing complex systems to achieve impactful client outcomes.
• Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills and ability to communicate effectively with varied stakeholders.
• Confident in distilling complex data into clear, accessible insights.
• Experience contributing to the delivery and integration of sophisticated systems or programmes, with attention to commercial results.
• Proven capability to engage clients and stakeholders in gathering, analysing, and defining technical requirements, including support for business cases or proposals.
• A cooperative and inclusive approach to teamwork, fostering a supportive environment.
• Professional accreditation or progression towards chartered status (e.g., INCOSE, IMarEST, IET, RAeS, Engineering NZ) is beneficial.
• Applicants may need to secure New Zealand Government security clearance, requiring citizenship or permanent residency.
