Job purpose
This role is responsible for generating insurance business from the assigned relationship or channel partner in a defined area or zone. The incumbent will work to influence the relationship partner so they can, in turn, recommend Birla Sun Life Insurance products to their customers. The position also involves delivering complete pre-sales and post-sales support to both the relationship partner and customers, along with the dedicated team supporting the account. A key expectation is to meet targets consistently while driving quarter-on-quarter business growth.
Job context and main challenges
The role operates in a dynamic environment where market movement can affect results, especially since the business largely consists of unit-linked insurance policies. Another major challenge is the high dependence on the HDFC branch banking model in an open architecture setup, where the channel partner may have competing priorities. Success in this role depends on strong alignment with the partner while balancing business processes and channel expectations.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
- Deliver premium and revenue targets to support overall company growth by maintaining regular engagement with channel partners, including multiple branch heads of the bank.
- Map all important decision-makers and ensure the information is shared with RH/ZH as required.
- Drive participation in all organization-led recognition and reward initiatives.
- Develop creative branch-level activities that improve customer penetration.
- Ensure sales and related processes run smoothly so the business potential is fully utilized.
- Communicate any process changes or regulatory updates through appropriate training modules.
- Make sure sales calls, policy issuance, and complaint resolution happen without operational blockers.
- Manage relationships in an open-architecture bank environment and serve customer needs with suitable products and service quality.
- Build strong knowledge of insurance products as well as bank products.
- Maintain relationships across all levels to achieve the desired outcomes.
- Identify new business opportunities in the assigned territory or relationship to improve productivity and topline.
- Find innovative ways of working with the partner to improve database penetration.
- Follow the FLS review mechanism with the goal of 40% activation and focus on 2 cases active at 50K ATS.
- Maintain the required product mix of Traditional 50%, ULIP 40%, and Term 10%.
- Work toward 15% more business than TATA.
- Share inputs for new products and sales pitches based on a deep understanding of channel requirements.
- Identify training needs for both internal teams and channel partner teams.
- Choose the right business acquisition approach to ensure a profitable mix for the organization.
- Review business regularly and provide relevant updates to senior leadership.
- Interact with customers through welcome calls.
- Support persistency targets by staying in touch with customers and resolving queries so renewals happen on time.
