Warehouse Chemist

Job Overview

JAL International Co. Ltd. is looking for a Warehouse Chemist with a strong background in chemical safety and warehouse management to oversee the proper handling, storage, and regulatory compliance of chemicals and hazardous materials in the warehouse in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Receive and inspect chemicals, accurately identifying and classifying them according to standards.
• Verify that incoming chemical shipments meet purchase specifications and comply with relevant regulatory mandates.
• Ensure proper labeling, packaging, storage, and segregation of chemicals based on compatibility and safety standards.
• Interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and apply the information for safe chemical management.
• Inspect chemical storage environments for adequate ventilation, cleanliness, and spill prevention.
• Identify expired, damaged, or obsolete chemicals and coordinate their safe removal and disposal.
• Maintain meticulous records of chemical inventories, inspections, permits, and compliance documentation.
• Perform chemical risk assessments and advise on preventative or corrective measures.
• Participate in spill response activities, incident investigations, and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide guidance and training on chemical safety to warehouse staff and internal teams.
• Liaise with Procurement, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Logistics, end users, and regulatory bodies.
• Support both internal and external compliance audits concerning chemical management.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field.
• A minimum of four years of experience relevant to chemical handling and warehouse operations.
• Completion of at least three months of training in Chemical Safety and Dangerous Goods Management.
• Solid knowledge of chemical properties, hazard classification systems, and chemical compatibility principles.
• Proficiency in interpreting Safety Data Sheets.
• Familiarity with Global Harmonized System (GHS), IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, IMDG Code, ADR, and local regulations regarding hazardous materials.
• Understanding of safe storage, segregation, transport, and disposal practices for hazardous substances.
• Experienced with warehouse operations and chemical inventory management systems.
• Excellent communication, document-keeping, and coordination skills essential for cross-departmental collaboration.
