Role overview
As a Dispenser in a Boots store, you will be an important part of the pharmacy team, helping the pharmacist and other healthcare colleagues deliver safe, efficient pharmacy and healthcare support. The role is based in-store in the UK and is not available remotely.
What the job involves
You will work in the healthcare area of the store, building positive relationships with patients by understanding their needs and offering practical support. Your day-to-day work may include welcoming customers, preparing and handing out prescriptions, ensuring medicines are supplied safely, and giving health and wellness guidance so patients can make informed choices.
The role also includes supporting patients to manage repeat prescriptions, improving medicine adherence, reducing waste, and helping maintain a smooth patient experience through modern store systems and updated dispensing processes.
Key duties
- Prepare and dispense prescriptions while making sure medicines are supplied safely.
- Handle tasks such as ordering medicines, labelling, dispensing, endorsing, and collecting prescriptions.
- Work alongside pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to support pharmacy service delivery.
- Offer advice on medicines and direct questions to the pharmacist when needed.
- Follow standard operating procedures to keep dispensing legal and safe.
- Stay current with new in-store processes and operational changes.
- Help patients manage repeat prescriptions and use medicines effectively.
- Use evolving technology and new systems to improve safety and free up more time for patient care.
Training and progression
You will receive regular updates and training to build your healthcare knowledge. The role also offers career development opportunities, including training toward Pharmacy Technician responsibilities or progression into the store leadership team.
Pay and location note
The hourly pay for this position is £13.92, and it can rise to £16.64 in selected London locations.
Eligibility and working conditions
This opportunity is for candidates who can work in the UK and in-store. Applications from outside the UK will only move forward if the candidate can evidence relevant UK qualifications and the right to work in the UK. Remote applicants will not be considered. The position is not eligible for Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship.
Checks and recruitment process
After an offer is made, the successful candidate must complete a pre-employment check. Depending on location, this may include a DBS, PVG, or Access NI check. Boots also reviews applicants with criminal convictions individually as part of its Ban the Box approach. Applications will be reviewed by the team, and shortlisted candidates will be contacted to arrange an interview.
Benefits
You may be eligible for a range of employee benefits, including a discretionary Christmas gift payment, staff discount, enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave pay plus a gift card for anyone expecting or adopting a child, a flexible benefits scheme, and access to free 24/7 counselling and support through TELUS Health Employee Assistance Programme.

Boots says it is committed to inclusion, diversity, and providing a supportive environment where colleagues can perform at their best and reach their potential.
